Cross-country with our chickens (and more)
Not necessary comfortable but very memorable five days on the road
It has been over a week and a half since we finished driving across the country.
Initially, we had a grand idea to go on a family road trip this Summer, touring different natural places while working and bringing inspiration & stories to share with BK. However, a plan is sometimes not a fixed path, which was the case in our situation.
Sometime towards the end of the Spring, instead of taking a drive as a “road trip,” Frido and I decided to leave what we were so familiar with in LA to head East - to Asheville, NC, to be precise. To make the situation more complex, we needed to move our two growing kids, Mango (our three-year-old Goldendoodle), and six hens. To ensure that we could take everyone with us (especially our family members with wings), we decided to drive across the country as quickly as possible in two cars—our campervan to sleep at night and our Subaru to transport our beloved chickens. Frido, Satchi, and Mango were leading the drive with MOONSEA (nickname for our camper van), and Coco and I followed them in our Subaru with AC blasting as much as possible towards the back of the car where our chickens were boxed during the drive.
“Funny, and how????” Before our departure, many of our friends asked us to update them with photos and stories when they heard us talk about moving cross-country with our chickens.
