A few months ago, Susannah Conway, a super sweet writer and journal coach, contacted me to contribute video content to her current Journal Love Club! I was so surprised and absolutely honored since I remembered taking her online writing course back in 2009, and I appreciated her approach to inner-world exploration. It was one of the catalysts for embedding a seed in Baum-kuchen!
I LOVE talking about analogue tools (notebooks and pens, anyone??) and sharing some of my writing practices and processes, so it was hard to pick one aspect to share in the 30-minute video. Ultimately, I decided to record a little show-and-tell of letters I have written to Satchi and Coco since they were little. As I unboxed the containers holding all the letters (in notebook format, of course) on a camera, I realized I had been keeping this ritual for ten years!!! I must admit it took me by surprise.
For over a decade, I have used Traveler’s Notebook refills, MD 1-day 1-page diaries, MD Codex, and now Hobonichi Hon to write letters to Satchi and Coco. Looking back through these pages, I am so glad that I left some photos in the pages and kept their cute little writings and drawings. When you are a mom, even random stick figures look so precious. Additionally, I used these notebooks to archive letters Satchi and Coco received from their friends and families along with mine. I am patting the shoulder of 35-year-old wakako for doing that (lol).
If you are curious, here is the video I made! It was a lot of fun doing this, so I am thinking… maybe… I can do more of these fun videos in the future:) We will see!
