It has been cold January days. Our beloved wood-burning fire, which we tenderly call “Calcifer,” is the primary heat source for us, and it is working really hard. The nickname is inspired by the movie “Hawl’s Moving Castle” since our house looks a little like the awkward structure in the movie.

When we lived in the city before moving to the canyon, the only way I knew how to warm up the house was to click the blue glowing Nest button either on the phone or the controller panel. A few minutes after pushing the button, without us doing anything more, the heat would have been evenly distributed to each room, and that was the extent of my relationship with the warmth.
