A few days ago, our Topanga friends left our home to return to their canyon neighborhood. What started as an emergency evacuation from the canyon on the evening of January 7th became 10 days of co-living with four elders from the canyon and their sweet pup Dixie in our little rental right outside the canyon. For those ten days, our family moved out of our bedrooms into our campervan to host our friends, and we were grateful that we had just enough bedrooms inside to make it as comfortable as possible for everyone.
It wasn’t quite “being on vacation together” since we were under the stress of their neighborhood being very close to the frontlines of the Palisades Fire and our studio being nearly taken by the Eaton Fire.
However, to borrow the exact words from Satchi and Coco, “It was the best slumber party ever.”
