Greetings from the lush green mountains. We had a few weeks of beautifully cool weather, which reminded me of visiting Japanese mountains during summer. This week, the season took another mini u-turn to warmer days. Tomato, cucumber, and basil plants love the extra heat, and I enjoy watching them grow happily in our raised beds. Whenever I have a mini break from all that is on my plate, I am taking the opportunity to let out the chickens and check on these petite vegetable plants. I am even getting a little more used to the presence of mosquitos, which I never thought would be possible. I think of it as give and take from the world around us. We get to eat the eggs from our chickens foraging in our garden and look forward to harvesting some vegetables in the future. In return, I am offering a little piece of me by letting mosquitoes get by here and there (not really willingly, but still being okay with it).
One of the big hopes and dreams for our Asheville house was to find a home with space large enough to have another “Creative Garage.” We had a sweet space in a converted garage back when we were living in Pasadena till 2020, where we had all of the kids’ arts and crafts supplies displayed on the shelf with a big work surfacre where they could explore and make things and get messy, whether on their own or with friends.
