Greetings from a little German island in the North Sea. We left our canyon home on Tuesday and finally settled in our VRBO house with Frido’s parents. Flying overseas has gotten easier as the kids have grown older, and we continue to practice traveling with just carry-on backpacks. Since the island we stay on is much chillier than Southern California, more than half of our backpacks are filled with winter gear. Wintergear sounds like it should be light, right?? (how heavy could a dawn jacket be? It’s mostly air, right??) I know that it is important for us to be able to carry what we need during our travel on our backs. I don’t want to grow our belongings out of proportion to who we are physically. But the backpack got heavier and heavier on our shoulders during all the walks we needed to do at the transit airports. We managed to keep it together, but it made me wonder how lovely it would feel if my backpack hadn’t been so heavy.
